I’ve been on regular dog walks in Sale, and never really knew of this place until someone i was talking to in Worthington Park suggested it. I’ve driven past it on the motorway and on Dane Road, but never really noticed it.
Not sure why they call it ‘gardens’ as it’s a just woodland and dirt tracks so maybe it used to be something years ago. There is no link to it on the website so couldn’t do any read ups about it. I visited Priory Gardens a few weeks ago with Fred and Basil and it’s not bad at all. If you want to walk your dog somewhere quiet and by this I mean not many other dogs or people, then it’s worth a visit. It’s not like a quiet woodland though as you have the sound of the traffic from the motorway and also the metro link line which runs at the side of it. It does have paths you can take to get to Sale Water Park so if you wanted to pad out your walk then have a walk over the big white bridge, or at the side which runs alongside the metro line.
You won’t get lost as all the paths will take you back to the main car park area. It may be best to take some decent footwear on rainy days, or following any wet days as it can be quite muddy!
You can get to Priory Gardens from Dane Road, or by joining it from the Water Park.
This is Basil the black Schnauzer, who joined us on his first walk today, and he loved every minute! Basil isn’t supposed to be out on his walks properly until early September, however, his owner has suggested some early walks so that he is ready for his regular walks with the rest of the gang.
Basil is a lovely little pooch and has a cute little bouncy walk. He loves to say hello to other dogs on the park, and he came along with Mickey and Scout who had a little play of ball with him. As with the first day I met him, he loves his little treats and sits nicely for one.
I can see we’re going to get on and I’m sure he’ll love meeting some new pals over the next few weeks! Here are some pics of Basil in action…
I only discovered Worthington park this week while looking for a different place to walk in Sale. I must have drove past so many times and not realised, it was only when I googled parks in the area that I discovered it!
I went along with Boris and Dexter on Tues 24th June, and then again today (Wed 25th June) with Little Rosie and Freddie. I highly recommend this park if you’re planning on looking for somewhere to take the pooches and/or children out as it’s a lovely looking place and as the website proudly states it has won the Green Flag award for the last 2 years running. You can certainly tell as it is one of the cleanest and well kempt parks I’ve been to.
It has a bowling green, play areas, toilets, quiet areas of grass land and a couple of large open spaces as shown on the map I’ve added below.
Worthington Park is located at the end of Cheltenham Drive in the centre of Sale – postcode M33 2DQ. Other main entrances to the Park are on Broad Road M33 2ES and via Charlton Drive M33 2BJ.
Today was Dexter’s first day of walks and we went to Longford Park, with Lester, Mickey and Monty on his second. Dexter wasted no time joining in the fun and making new friends and can see he’ll be having more fun and games over the next few days. I brought Monty over from Sale, and he certainly came out of his shy shell joining in with the chases and playing and making new friends.
I was joined by my friend Mickela who came along with the lovely Honey, and we also bumped into another friendly dog walker, Emilie from Happy Paws and her group of happy pooches. Lester the schnauzer was very pleased to meet Luigi another schnauzer from Emilie’s group. Here are some pics of their adventures..
Here’s Smokey who joined us today for his first walk!
Smokey is an Old English Sheepdog and as you can see he’s a big lad! I thought as it was his first day I would take him to Sale Water Park, with Fred who lives nearby. His owners haven’t been here before so it was new grounds to explore.
Smokey is ten years old but doesn’t look it and was very lively out on his walk. Here are a few pics of his adventures which he’ll be enjoying on future walks.
Today, Monty the Springer Spaniel, enjoyed his first walk with dogs buddy, playing ball and having a run around. I thought that I would take along some doggy friends who he met last week – my Mickey, and Lester the Schnauzer. Monty was quite shy at first especially as Lester was more excited than usual and just wanted to run around Monty and tease him with the ball. Monty was too fast for Lester on a few occasions and didn’t want to let the ball out of his grip.
Here are a few pics of his walk with us this afternoon….
It’s been a week of new canine clients this week, and it’s been very nice and they’ve all had a great time! First on a walk was Sephy, a lovely Bedlington Terrier who has been out a couple of times this week to Chorlton Water Park. Sephy loves to play, chase the geese and swans and pop in the river for a little paddle. She does look all innocent in her picture but she can certainly bark and be very energetic bless her!
Next for their first walk are Maddie and Arthur. Their previous walker had to move away so their owners needed a new dog walker. The first few days took a while for them to get used to me and they did run off for quite a distance when out in Alexandra Park, and Platt Fields Park. I had to have my eyes everywhere as they wouldn’t stick together when off somewhere exploring. They did come back eventually after lots of shouting and whistling! By the end of the week they stayed close by and enjoyed getting out for an hour’s play!
And last but not least, is Friendly Fred the Cocker Spaniel. Fred always gives me a lovely welcome when I go to pick him up. As he lives over in Sale, I bring along some other doggy friends for him to have a run and play with and usually go to Sale Water Park, and Chorlton Ees at the top of the river brook. Fred has a playful bark in the car, and when out and is just really excited. Fred also likes to go for a little swim. I didn’t take him out today, which is a god job really as the Spring weather was freezing! Not sure he would have liked the chill afterwards!
So all in all a very good week and I look forward to more adventures with them in the coming weeks!
Today, we welcome friendly Fred to our walks! I met Fred who is a black and white Cocker Spaniel, over the weekend and he was adorable and playful so I knew what to expect when I picked him up. He was very excited and couldn’t wait to get out. We went to Sale Water Park and through the fields at the back and up to the top of the River Mersey Brook. Mickey and another cocker spaniel, Elsa came along too, and they hit it off straight away playing chase and playing with a tennis ball.
Fred is my only canine client in the Sale area as other pooches are from Chorlton, Fallowfield and Didsbury areas, so I will need to pick others up first before getting to Fred. If there are any pooches from Sale, eager to join Fred on his walks then get in touch – remember it’s 10% discount for the first 4 weeks!
