Welcome to Doodle!

2014-06-23 11.49.12This good looking lad joined us for walks last week, and he eased into group walks and meeting new friends! Doodle is an 8 year old Collie/Lab cross and is very fast for his age. He loves to chase ball and can go at some speed. He was very competitive with his new Friend Tilly, who is also fast but had to put in a bit more work to keep up with Doodle 🙂

His owner said he would be fine off-lead and has good recall so I tried this on our first day and he didn’t disappoint. He’s a big lad and can take up quite a bit of space in the car but the good thing is he sits there nice and calm and enjoys looking out of the window on our way to the park.

Doodle has a great temperament and I’m sure he’ll get along with all his new pals over the coming weeks. Here are some pics of him showing off his glossy black and white coat and big smile!

Walk your dog in Priory Gardens

2013-09-24 13.06.50I’ve been on regular dog walks in Sale, and never really knew of this place until someone i was talking to in Worthington Park suggested it. I’ve driven past it on the motorway and on Dane Road, but never really noticed it.

Not sure why they call it ‘gardens’ as it’s a just woodland and dirt tracks so maybe it used to be something years ago. There is no link to it on the website so couldn’t do any read ups about it.  I visited Priory Gardens a few weeks ago with Fred and Basil and it’s not bad at all. If you want to walk your dog somewhere quiet and by this I mean not many other dogs or people, then it’s worth a visit. It’s not like a quiet woodland though as you have the sound of the traffic from the motorway and also the metro link line which runs at the side of it.  It does have paths you can take to get to Sale Water Park so if you wanted to pad out your walk then have a walk over the big white bridge, or at the side which runs alongside the metro line.

You won’t get lost as all the paths will take you back to the main car park area. It may be best to take some decent footwear on rainy days, or following any wet days as it can be quite muddy!

You can get to Priory Gardens from Dane Road, or by joining it from the Water Park.

Victoria Park, Stretford

2013-08-03 12.02.44We discovered this little gem of a park last weekend, and I can’t believe I haven’t been here before! It’s one of the nicest and cleanest parks I’ve been too. If you’re familiar with Stretford when driving through it’s situated at the back of the houses not too far from the Arndale Shopping Centre.

Victoria Park, Stretford was opened on the 15th November 1902 which is the date showing on the plaque by the magnificent gates leading into the park from the corner of Victoria Road and School Road. These gates were presented to the park to celebrate the reign of Queen Victoria and it must have been a grand unveiling and opening in Stretford.

The park itself was built to replace ‘The Rec’ which was a football pitch sized area of land on the site of Henshaw Street (very close to Victoria Park’s situation today). ‘The Rec’ came into being around 1890 and had separate playgrounds for boys and girls. We know that the coronation celebrations for Edward VII were held on ‘The Rec’ on the 26th June 1902 and so presume that Victoria Park must not have been open at this time.

We started off in the garden of tranquility, and admired the perfect floral designs. If you have lively dogs it may be worth keeping them close so they don’t run too mad of the flower beds! This is a long stretch of flower designs and there are more situated all around the park.  This takes you up to the sun-dial and took a few photos there. A bit further up are 3 tennis courts which were busy being in the peak summer time on a Saturday afternoon. Other attractions in the park are a football pitch, Bowling green, Wild flower gardens, roller hockey pitch,  over 5’s play area, under 5’s play area, and a basketball court!

They even provide pop bags which are funded by the Friends of Victoria Park charity which is something I’ve not seen in a park before so there’s no excuses!

I highly recommend giving Victoria Park a visit if you fancy a trip somewhere different.

Welcome to Mabel!

2013-06-17 10.15.52Mabel the boxer joined us for walks yesterday, and has met 4 new pooch pals already! I always wonder what the first walk will be with a new canine client, ie if they travel well in the car, will they get on with other dogs, how will they react with me for the first time but I didn’t need to worry. She was great in every aspect and just loves being outside socialising and enjoying herself 🙂

I have met with Mabel and her owner but that was quite a while back. We got chatting and here we are getting out and about on our walks. Mabel may only be with us temporarily so we’ll make sure she has a great time each day. Here are some pics of her having a good time…

A nice walk around Stamford Park

I’m a bit late at adding this place to visit as we came here after a family birthday lunch a few weeks ago on a Sunday. We had quite a lot to eat so decided to walk it off in the nearby park, and Stamford Park was highly recommended. This park is based on the borders of Altrincham and Hale,  and if you click on the link for Stamford Park it will give you the map and directions of how to get there. It’s a nice family friendly park which isn’t huge but has plenty to offer including playing fields,  cafe, duck pond, children’s play area, bowling greens, tennis courts, football pitch etc.  Here is a map of the park details where the facilities are:Welcome map

In fact while the kids went for a play in the play area, I went for a stroll around with Mickey, which was pleasant and he enjoying exploring a new area. The duck pond was closed off at the time we went as it is being improved and should be open once Summer is in full flow.

So if you’re in the area why not call in for a look around especially now the lighter evenings are upon us – enjoy!
